Layout of the Hab (MDRS)
From HabLife
Keep the Hab neat. As the cupboard in the kitchen tells you ‘This Hab is not self-cleaning’.
The only way to keep it neat is to clean and put things back, immediately after using them.
A necessary nuisance, or you will end up cleaning and sorting all Friday before the next crew arrives.
To prove that your crew was not the culprit if anything is out of place, we expect you to take pictures of the state of affairs when you have taken command of the Hab on Sunday morning, and to take the same number of pictures of the Hab on Saturday morning, the day that you leave again. Upload them to the web and we have a file to plead your innocence successfully.
Internet We only have a limited amount of bandwidth usage each day. If you have used this up, sending your daily reports to Mission Support at the communications window 8-9 PM will be a painfully slow process. Or will result in a comm's outage until the next day starts and the daily kilobyte usage counter is reset to zero. So don't do a lot of internet surfing or use the internet to play online games (not In Sim). Uploading your photos can wait until you get home, and downloading movies and music is a definite no-no! Your friends in chat rooms will survive the two weeks without you (also not In Sim). Emails to family are fine, but remember that official MDRS communications come first and that other people would also like have some contact with their loved ones. Internet access and communications will be limited on a real Mars mission too, consider this part of the experience of being at MDRS.
Webcams The webcams must be used at all times. The are part of the outreach of MDRS. During the night, between 23:00-7:00 hours it is permitted to let the upstairs webcam face to the wall or put a piece of paper in front of it. For the rest of the time this is part of being on Mars. Mission support peeks in to see if you are allright. People all over the world, including your loved ones, friends and colleagues back home, peek in to see how life is on Mars. The webcams only refresh every minute. It is not a life feed, so the intrusion is not as bad as it may feel at first.
